Daphne Fancutt Cup

BRTA to Field a Team for the Daphne Fancutt Shield

BRTA is honoured to accept the generous offer from Waverley Tennis to enter a team in the 2020 ‘Daphne Fancutt Shield’.  This is a first for BRTA in this prestigious annual long running inter- Associations event.  The event honours Daphne Fancutt  – one of Australia’s tennis greats,  having been runner-up in the 1956 Wimbledon Ladies Double Championships.  Her three sons also played at Wimbledon, making the Fancutt family the only one in history in which each member made it to the prestigious tournament.

Son Charlie now coaches, and the next generation of family members is also determined to add to the family’s trophy cabinet.  In 2020 BRTA will be replacing the Fancutt Academy team that usually travels from Brisbane for the event.

Saturday, 18 January, 2020, and Sunday, 19 January, 2020, at the Robinson Reserve Tennis Centre, Waverley Tennis’ home courts in Frawley Road, Doveton (Melway Ref. 91 A10).

These dates are the weekend preceding the Australian Open at Melbourne Park (20 JAN – 02 FEB 2020).

It is intended that there will be a Sports Trainer in attendance throughout the duration of the Carnival.
